POP ART MUSSELS & Endangered Texas Hornshell Art

POP ART MUSSELS?!?!

“Texas Hornshell (Poenaias popeii)"- Endangered Aquatic Invertebrate

I am excited to share that I have been invited by ISEA (Informal Science Education Association) to speak about my art and share a fun science-based art activity of my design at their 2021 conference this year.

It's an honor for me because I'll be speaking with some of Texas' educators providing people with real-life, meaningful experiences with science.

POP ART MUSSELS:

Everyone knows Warhol's Campbell's soup can. What about the The Texas Hornshell? The Guadalupe Fatmucket? The first step to protecting endangered and threatened species is to learn how fascinating and essential they are. One way to create connections is to have meaningful experiences with those species... However, that can be difficult to achieve with rare and imperiled species.

In this class we will spend some time learning some fascinating facts about some of Texas' most imperiled mussels, then learn an engaging art technique to create art about these (or your favorite mussel) species.

This activity is great for ages 7- 100!
