CURRENT EXHIBITION: PALOMA MAYORGA

Hija de flores / Daughter of flowers is an installation composed of floral DNA representations that investigate the concept of botanical wisdom, or the practice of slowly unearthing bits of inherited knowledge that have been passed down generations of women as tools for healing and survival.

"Defined by my bicultural upbringing, I grew up taking long road trips between Austin, Texas and Mexico City. I observed changes in the landscape and developed a sense of home through the plants that decorated the gardens of my grandmothers, as well as those that were utilized in local cuisine and home remedies. My art practice is rooted in exploring memories attached to plants, with a special focus on Latinx ecofeminist perspectives."

Paloma Mayorga is an interdisciplinary artist and independent curator born and based in Austin, TX. Working across photography, video, performance, and installation, Mayorga often uses her own body as medium to explore movement, place, and cultural identity in relation to landscape and ancestral uses of plants.

Hija de flores / Daughter of flowers es una instalación compuesta por representaciones de ADN de flores que investigan el concepto de sabiduría botánica, o la práctica de desenterrar fragmentos de conocimiento heredado que se han transmitido mediante generaciones de mujeres como herramientas para sanar y sobrevivir.

"Definido por mi educación bicultural, crecí haciendo largos viajes por carretera entre Austin, Texas y la Ciudad de México. Observaba cambios en el paisaje y desarrollé mi sentido de hogar a través de las plantas que decoraban los jardines de mis abuelas, al igual que las que se utilizaban en la cocina y remedios caseros. Mi práctica artística se basa en la exploración de recuerdos vinculados a las plantas, con un enfoque especial en las perspectivas ecofeministas latinas."

Paloma Mayorga es una artista interdisciplinaria y curadora independiente nacida y radicada en Austin, TX. Trabajando con fotografía, video, performance e instalación, Mayorga a menudo utiliza su propio cuerpo como medio para explorar el movimiento, el lugar y la identidad cultural en relación con el paisaje y los usos ancestrales de las plantas.

From May 2024 through April 2025, enjoy 12 eco arts shows in the solar-powered @ReallySmallMuseum_atx by Artist Juliet Whitsett as part of TEMPO on the Trail! TEMPO is a temporary art exhibition on the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail that is intended to cultivate curiosity, spark imagination, and encourage exploration of the city of Austin and is a partnership between The Trail Conservancy and The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP).

Desde mayo de 2024 hasta abril de 2025, disfrute de 12 exposiciones de artes ecológicas. La artista Juliet Whitsett invita a artistas colaborativos a crear exhibiciones de arte ecológico de 1 mes en @ReallySmallMuseum_atx como parte de TEMPO on the Trail. TEMPO es una exposición de arte temporal en Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail que tiene como objetivo cultivar la curiosidad, despertar la imaginación y fomentar la exploración de la ciudad de Austin y es una asociación entre The Trail Conservancy y The City of Austin's Art in Public Places. (AIPP).
